We asked Pamela if she would introduce herself and share a bit about her artwork and motivation, and here is what she wrote…
My mixed media collage has a ‘soul’ purpose. My creative process is a very personal journey that opens me up and is guided as I walk through the process that gives my art a voice of love, acceptance and a sense of purpose, with healing and restoration. I’m a self taught mixed media artist whose creativity was born out of trauma, and through a need to express my voice in healing my heart.
My work is about identity, truth, hope, bravery, and the restoration of who we are. It’s about the freedom to move and breathe in this world. And about being brave enough to let the light in us shine. This body of work represents truth in my life. Horses represent freedom of movement in all that they are. Birds fly with a freedom that feeds my spirit. The Cross is my foundation, and feeds my desire to detach what we think it means and lean into the truth of what it is. The Feathers in my work represent protection, flight, individualism and strength.
My process starts with laying my hands on the layer of the gessoed panel—a way to begin the connection to what is going to be created. I put on anywhere from 6-10 layers of paint, with sanding, scratching, mark making, glazing and collage. There is always one layer that creates a struggle with every painting I’ve ever created. I wrestle with it, leave it be, come back to it, and if it's still not settled. Then I remember to trust the process, and once I come to peace and release the struggle, something beautiful comes to be. We are brave, we are strong, we are beautiful, we are courageous, we persevere, we are freedom. Remember, there's beauty in your bravery.
Welcome to our ‘virtual’ exhibit, and the work of Pamela Chiasson. Pamela’s work immediately called out to us when we first saw it. With its vibrant colors, the symbolism used throughout, rich layering and use of multiple techniques to create her surfaces, and the iterative process she relies on to guide her to a finished work of art. And then we visited her Hudson, MA studio. We wandered up through the historic mill building and had the pleasure of meeting her face to face amidst a kaleidoscopic collection of her work.
Pamela indeed puts her soul into all of her work, from her mixed media paintings to delightful wooden models, greeting cards, and much more. Her work is captivating, enchanting, ever more fascinating the closer you look—and she truly wears her faith and spirituality on her sleeve. We feel so fortunate to have found her.
In her Rines Gallery exhibit and on these virtual pages, Pamela shares work from three of her ‘series’. Her ‘Crosses’ series showcases a “profound expression of faith, hope, and the transformative power of the Cross.” Her delightful ‘Horses’ series treats us to flights of whimsy, with horses of many colors and imaginative design work. In her panoramic work she almost overwhelms us with color, and feathers, and symbolism.
Pamela has been exhibiting mixed media collage art & photography for the past 35+ years. With her background in photography, she draws on a strong sense of design and composition—all strengths she uses to create her Spirit-led mixed media collage art.

These seven artworks are a profound expression of faith, hope, and the transformative power of the Cross. Each piece carries a unique message, symbolizing different aspects of my spiritual journey and inviting viewers to reflect on their beliefs and experiences. The power of this series as an expression of faith and hope—particularly in contrast to the overpowering worry and fear that defined 2020—is undeniable.
From ‘The Radiance of Strength’, which illuminates the inherent strength found in Christ, to ‘The Divine Exchange’, which explores Jesus's sacrifice and the abundant life we receive through Him, my artworks resonate with depth and meaning. They convey a sense of divine presence, love, and restoration that transcends the boundaries of art.
In each piece, my artistic skill and spiritual connection intertwine, creating a tapestry of beauty, grace, and hope. Whether it's the celebration of faith in ‘Expression of Glory’ or the profound symbolism of protection in ‘Shield of My Faith’, these artworks invite viewers to embark on their spiritual journey to an authentic expression of faith that holds solace, inspiration, and healing.
As we contemplate these works, may we be inspired to embrace our own artistic and spiritual journeys, seek restoration and wholeness, and recognize the profound beauty and significance that lies within the enduring power of the Cross.

The Horse Series is ongoing and carries a message of love and hope. The series has been inspired by Native American Ledger Art and my love for horses in their bravery. The images reflect on the belief that beauty is not in the reflection of the mirror, but what is in our spirits and all we are that is brought into this world. We are brave, we are strong, we are beautiful, we are courage, we persevere, we are freedom....remember there is beauty in your bravery. peace, love and light.

This collection of separate mixed media pieces on canvas weaves together powerful spiritual symbols—crosses, birds, and fish —into expansive, wide-view artworks. Each piece explores a distinct theme: the cross reflects faith and sacrifice, birds symbolize freedom and spiritual ascent, and fish represent peace, transformation, and abundance.
I incorporate ‘faith feathers’ in each work, adding a meaningful layer to the creative expression. Together, these pieces offer a contemplative journey through faith, blending symbolism with a wide and expansive artistic vision. I invite the viewers to explore these themes individually and as a whole.
